Free agents Barcelona could still sign after the end of the transfer window – Report

The summer transfer window closed yesterday on Friday with Dani Olmo being the only significant addition to the FC Barcelona squad. The Catalans had wanted to incorporate some other players as well, but their financial conditions made it very difficult for them to undertake their desired moves in the market.

The Blaugranes were unable to return to the 1:1 rule, as they could not get their deal with Nike completed before the transfer window ended. However, if they are able to complete this deal in the coming days and return to the 1:1, they will still be able to strengthen their squad.

As SPORT has reported, Barcelona can still sign a free agent in the coming few days if they have enough financial fair play margin. However, they would first have to take care of the registration of Dani Olmo and Inigo Martinez, who have both been registered because of the injuries to Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.

Still, the Catalans have three available spots in the first team to register new players, and there are several options present.

One of these options is the French midfielder Adrien Rabiot. He could be a significant addition to the Barcelona squad after the injury suffered by Marc Bernal, and his experience and skills can come in handy for Flick. He is already being monitored by Barcelona but is not a priority option.

The Catalans are also spread quite thin in the center of the defense, with the absence of players like Araujo and Christensen. Thus, Mario Hermoso, who ended his contract with Atletico Madrid this summer, can be an intriguing option for them. He is looking for a new team, but he is unlikely to join Barcelona.

Another compelling center-back option would be Matts Hummels, who is without a club after not renewing with Borussia Dortmund. He is a proven player, and might still have a year or two to play at the highest level.

Another similar option is Joel Matip, who has been without a club since leaving Liverpool. He is 33 years old, and with his physicality and experience, he can be a good option for the Catalans.

While all of these options are quite attractive, it is highly unlikely that FC Barcelona will be able to incorporate them in the coming days as they do not have enough salary space, and a deal with Nike also looks some way off.
