New prodigies continue to emerge from the Barcelona youth system and it helps the club massively. Despite having their own financial troubles to deal with, La Blaugrana have found solace and respite thanks to their youngsters. Even with their inability to sign world-beaters, Barcelona are capable enough to develop their own.

The likes of Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, Marc Bernal, Alejandro Balde, and many others are clear evidence of this. However, that train from La Masia to the first team did not start with them and it will not stop with them either. More talented youngsters continue to emerge and showcase their potential to do more in the future.

In the most recent game that was played by Barcelona Atletic, yet another new face has emerged as one of the youth category’s most promising midfielders. As highlighted by SPORT, 16-year-old Pedro Rodriguez was the surprise debutant for Albert Sanchez’s Barcelona B team.

While the game against Gerard Pique’s Andorra may have ended in a 2-1 defeat for Barcelona Atletic, there were some more than promising signs from Pedro Rodriguez and the team as a whole. In fact, the midfield partnership of Rodriguez (aged 16), Pau Prim (aged 18), and Guille Fernandez (aged 16) was the youngest midfield trio in the history of Barcelona Atletic to be fielded together.

A player for the youth categories of the Catalan club since 2019, Rodriguez stood out in this recent performance as the right-sided interior. While Unai Hernandez was pushed forward to act out as a false winger in order to accommodate more pure midfielders in light of Raul Dacosta being sidelined, Pedro Rodriguez got his chance to shine.

Constantly combining well with his teammates and exploiting spaces as well, it is no wonder he is regarded as one of the brightest and most promising youth players at Barcelona. His advanced role certainly helped him in showcasing his most valuable talents and the youngster’s call-up to Barcelona Atletic should be telling enough about the potential he holds.

As if fortune smiled upon the club, it seems that the Catalan giants have yet another ‘Pedro Rodriguez’ from La Masia to look forward to. While his continuity at Barcelona Atletic may not be a guarantee given that more players will gradually return and be signed, even his time at Juvenil A should let him continue his natural development at a level that is more suited to his age and maturity.

While the player has some weaknesses that could use some strengthening, he definitely boasts some great qualities as well. To be a player for the first team in the future, however, he will need to hone his abilities to the best of his own capabilities and excel where he currently seems to be lacking.
