The special training that helped Robert Lewandowski resurge at Barcelona

Many players, even those at FC Barcelona, prefer to use the summer vacations to refuel and reset. The football calendar is a rather demanding one, and to play at the top level players need all the rest and respite they can get. However, for some players at Barcelona, it is only another opportunity to hone their skills and improve.

One such player who seems to never stop working on himself is Robert Lewandowski, the 36-year-old Polish ace who formerly broke all sorts of records at German side Bayern Munich. However, his goalscoring days at the Allianz Arena are now behind him, and his current home is FC Barcelona.

While he did have a decent goalscoring season in his previous campaign, many believed that Lewandowski did not perform at his best level for Barcelona last season. As such, it seems that the veteran goalscorer took it upon himself to ensure a much sharper version of him appeared this season.

Ultimately, that is exactly what he has managed to achieve and he has pointed out himself in a recent interview ahead of the international break that he believes that he is back at his physical best. Yet, SPORT has now highlighted a possible secret that allowed Lewandowski to make this transformation in the summer.

The Barcelona forward trained alone at the club facilities of Mallorca-based side Cade Paguera. While he did post images online of his training sessions at the club’s facilities, more details have now been provided by the club’s president Juanjo Moral as he talked about how it even came to be:

Someone from his team contacted me to ask if we could open the field for him to train alone. I discussed it with the board, and we agreed to let him train behind closed doors. The only condition was that the field had to be off-limits to anyone else, especially children, while he was training.

He also shared details about the player’s typical routine and how he interacted with fans who did ultimately manage to pinpoint his location:

He started training at 8 a.m., then took a shower and left. He posted about his training on social media, which made it less private than he intended. There were kids waiting outside for photos, but they were very well-behaved.

Ultimately, the striker’s decision to hold these individual training sessions ended up paying off and he may have the club’s generosity to thank for it. So far this season, he has scored four goals in four La Liga outings as he leads the goalscoring charts of the Spanish First Division. Even apart from that, the Polish ace now looks sharper than ever in front of goal and with the ball at his feet.

While the arrival of Hansi Flick understandably helps the player as well, given that Lewandowski enjoyed arguably his best individual years under the German coach’s leadership at Bayern, there is something beyond the collective and that is the individual quality that the player has clearly worked on.
