After having a magical 2023-24 season, the young FC Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has continued to remain a part of the first team under the new coach, Hansi Flick. The youngster also made his senior international debut with Spain last season, and although he missed out on the UEFA EURO 2024 squad, he still won the gold medal in the Paris Olympic Games.

For this international break, he has been called up for the Spain U-21 side. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the youngster appeared in an interview with TV3 while training with this international side, and took this opportunity to thank the new Barcelona coach for continuing to entrust him with opportunities.

In this regard, the defender said:

“I did have the uncertainty of not knowing if I would start in the first few games, but the coach trusted me, and I’m really grateful for that. I’ve tried to give my 100% so he can trust me more in the future. [Flick] is very approachable, always tries to help, and even off the field, he checks in to see if you need anything.”

The youngster went on to explain how the team’s attitude has changed since Flick’s appointment:

“It has changed a bit… I wouldn’t say the mentality, but more about being positive and going after the opponent from the very first moment.”

Cubarsi also showed his satisfaction with the team’s results up to now, but still believed that they need to work on every game:

“It invites us to dream, but we have to take it one game at a time, just like we’re doing now. We need to focus on achieving our goals, which I believe means winning each match, concentrating on the next opponent, and not thinking too far ahead.”

These words from Cubarsi show just how mature he is despite being only 17 years of age. He has already shown his highly developed skills on the pitch, and hopefully, he will be able to build up on the successes of the last season to continue with his immense growth and development this season.
