Many footballers dream of one day becoming a part of the iconic history and heritage of FC Barcelona. The Catalan club has undoubtedly touched many hearts through its storied past and the scintillating football that has been played throughout the years. However, only a lucky and fortunate few ultimately end up representing Barcelona.

While most first team signings are players who have exhibited a cemented version of themselves while playing for other first teams in other clubs, some players arrive through rather unconventional methods or routes. Such can be said for Pau Victor, the 22-year-old Spanish forward who earned his stay at the club last season.

Initially arriving as a loan player from Girona to help out Rafa Marquez’s Barcelona Atletic, his sensational first season in the B team convinced the club to sign him and deploy him in the first team. So far, under Hansi Flick, the Spaniard has been available for selection in every official game and has also gotten some minutes in most of them.

However, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, the player’s initial reaction to joining Barcelona was an emotional experience and one that the player had always dreamt about as he spoke about it in an interview with ‘Barça One’:

“My initial reaction was to cry and celebrate with my partner and family.”

He also spoke about the chance to work under Hansi Flick and how he managed to prove to himself with his goals and performances during the preseason that he belonged at the club:

“It was a week I will always remember. I came with the mindset of proving I could stay here. They never suggested the possibility of a loan, but you always worry whether you’re up to the level or if you might not make the cut. That week helped me prove to myself that I belonged here.”

Victor also showed gratitude towards his family for being the ones who continue to keep him grounded despite the fact that the player is currently representing his dream club:

“It’s hard to be fully aware and process everything that’s happening because you’ve dreamed of it your whole life and don’t consider what might happen. My family and friends keep me grounded… I can’t imagine what I would be doing if I weren’t a footballer; I never considered anything else.”

He also made sure to state just how much he looks forward to playing at the new Camp Nou as well, while also saying that representing Barcelona at the Montjuic Stadium itself is also a special feeling:

“If playing at Lluís Companys is spectacular, wearing this jersey is already special, but playing at Camp Nou will make it even more extraordinary. It will be a beautiful experience, and we hope the results will be positive.”

Now contracted to the club until 2029, Pau Victor has many years ahead of him to remain committed to the Catalan giants. Already a promising young forward, he seems to have gained Hansi Flick’s trust back during the preseason and consequently booked his place in the first team.
