International breaks are always a cause of concern amongst Barcelona fans considering the number of injuries the club has faced in previous seasons. It’s always a pleasant surprise if the players return in full shape without any casualties.

With the season’s first international break in full swing, fans cannot wait for the players to return and for Hansi Flick ball to continue. However, as always, things never are that straightforward when it comes to Barcelona.

Spain took on Serbia in their first game of the break which ended in a 0-0 draw and are set to take Switzerland on next. Dani Olmo started in La Roja’s first game and had a decent performance but did not complete the game.

As per Mundo Deportivo, manager Luis de la Fuente has confirmed that new Barcelona signing Dani Olmo suffered a heavy knock against Serbia and is a doubt to face Switzerland. Here is what he had to say:

“Dani Olmo will not train for the first few minutes. He received a heavy blow in the match and we don’t know how he will feel between now and tomorrow.”

The positive for Barcelona is that this is just a knock. Him missing out on the Switzerland game might be a blessing disguise as it would give Olmo the opportunity to rest well and be ready for the club post the international break.

Olmo has started the season very well. The 26-year-old has played two games for Barcelona so far, ending up on the scoresheet in both games. He looks at home in Hansi Flick’s system and seems like a smart signing from the club.

One can only hope that Luis de la Fuente decides to rest Olmo tomorrow and not run the risk of aggravating his injury. Talking about rest, it would be good if the manager also chose to give Lamine Yamal a much-deserved break.

Pedri on the other hand might be in for a start tomorrow, especially if Olmo misses out. Let’s hope our Golden Boy can return from the game unscathed as Barcelona begin to build towards facing Girona next in the league.
