It might have been around 10 days since Hansi Flick’s Barcelona dismantled Real Valladolid at home but it still feels fresh in the memories. One can’t wait for the international break to come to an end and for Hansi-ball to return.

Barcelona’s reserve team however was in action last night. On a night that will be remembered for the brilliant goals scored by the Fernandez cousins, there was a sour point – the potential injury to Sergi Dominguez.

The latest Barcelona debutant pulled up with some discomfort during warm-ups and had to be replaced in the starting XI by Edu Sánchez. Having just broken into the first team, fans would have been hoping that this injury was not serious.

After the game, reserve team coach Albert Sánchez has offered a promising update on the 19-year-old’s injury as quoted by SPORT. Here is what he had to say:

“Sergi is fine, he felt discomfort during the warm-up and we didn’t want to take any risks, but there is nothing.”

Dominguez has emerged into the first-team picture out of nowhere. The teenager has been helped by the number of injuries Barcelona have suffered in this position recently. That said, take no credit away from him.

The 19-year-old is an assured presence on the ball. His passing range might not be as expansive as Pau Cubarsi but let’s face facts here – not many defenders in the world can compete with the 17-year-old in this regard.

Having made his debut against Valladolid, Dominguez will be hoping to get more game time in the coming weeks. With Eric Garcia almost certain to play as a pivot this season, it opens up a spot in the squad in central defense.

The important thing right now will be to ensure that Dominguez’s knock is not serious. The next few days will give us a clearer picture and let’s wait and see how it goes.
