Dani Olmo was the only notable addition that FC Barcelona made to their squad in the last summer transfer window. But with his quick adaptation and explosive performances, he alone has lifted the spirits of the Blaugrana fans in this early phase of the campaign.

The Catalans got him permanently from RB Leipzig after paying €55 million fixed and promising another possible €7 million in variables. But the Spaniard’s position in the Barcelona squad is still not too stable as he is registered with La Liga only till December of this year.

The La Liga President, Javier Tebas, has already confirmed this earlier, and now, as SPORT has reported, the General Director of La Liga, Javier Gomez, has also endorsed this fact. Talking about the registration situation of some Barcelona players, the La Liga General Director said:

“Barça registered Olmo until December 31, just like Pau Víctor. Íñigo Martínez is registered until June. They did this under a rule that has been in force until now.”

“From the first day the economic control rules were approved, clubs knew there were three situations to manage when there’s no fair play: hiring a new coach after dismissing one, renewing a youth player at market level if they break through, and if a player gets injured. These situations have been regulated over the years, and in this case, due to injuries.”

The league executive went on to explain what Barcelona need to do to continue enjoying the services of Olmo beyond December:

“Barça has time until December 31 to generate the missing portion for Olmo. They don’t necessarily need to reach the 1:1 ratio and can register him even if they are over the limit.”

Thus, it is clear that as things stand, both Olmo and Pau Victor will no longer be registered with La Liga on January 1st. Barcelona will have to ensure they get their finances in shape by then so they do not mess up with their situations, especially as players like Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen are also expected to return from their injuries by that time.
