Wojciech Szczesny has been the latest addition to this FC Barcelona squad as the Catalans were able to incorporate him into their team even after the summer transfer window had closed.

This was possible only because their starting goalkeeper, Marc Andre Ter Stegen, had suffered a serious injury that can keep him out for the rest of the season, and FIFA and La Liga regulations allow clubs to get new players even outside of the normal transfer windows in such circumstances.

With Szczesny, Barcelona have a highly experienced and reliable option for the goalkeeping position. However, the big problem with him was that he had already retired after the UEFA EURO 2024, and had not played professionally for the last few months.

Since his arrival in Barcelona around two weeks ago, he has been training to get back to his best shape, and according to SPORT, he is now looking to get his first start in a Blaugrana shirt in the upcoming match against Sevilla.

The goalkeeper himself made it clear that he is ready to start his first game for Barcelona as appeared in an interview with 3Cat. The Pole made it clear that he is ready to start:

“I’ve prepared myself these past two weeks to be ready. Whether I play or not is the coach’s decision, and I have to respect that. But I train to play the match, and mentally, I’m already prepared.”

Szczesny also declared that he is now enjoying training after a difficult few days:

“These have been very nice days. That said, the first ones were tough from a physical standpoint, especially for goalkeepers, since we train alone, and it’s not very fun. But this week, when I joined the group, it’s been really fun and stimulating because we play games and joke around with the teammates.”

FC Barcelona fans will be excited to see the Polish veteran play in their team, but it remains to be seen whether Flick will pick Inaki Pena or Szczesny for these upcoming matches.
