Joan Laporta reveals how much Barcelona paid to sign Dani Olmo

Owing mainly to their weak finances and the low salary margin, FC Barcelona were able to make only minimal additions to their squad in the last summer transfer window. Both of these signings were offensive ones, as the Blaugranes incorporated Pau Victor and Dani Olmo into their team.

Dani Olmo was doubtlessly the star signing of the window for the Catalans, but the club had not disclosed the economic details of the operation at the time they made his signing official.

Now, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, Joan Laporta delivered the opening speech at FC Barcelona’s Ordinary General Assembly and confirmed the fee the club paid to RB Leipzig for the purchase of Dani Olmo.

“We have been cautious with investments. Our sporting director has done very well, and the only investments have been Olmo and Pau Víctor. We were talking about around 50 million for a significant investment, and Olmo cost us 47 million.”

However, the Spanish outlet claims that this price can end up being more for Barcelona, as there were also some bonuses promised for titles won and for playing in 60% of the matches for his new club.

In addition to the costs of these two arrivals, Laporta also talked about the €81 million that Barcelona made from their sales:

“They have been sports sales, not to make a swap that would help balance the accounts. There was one player who left by taking advantage of a low buyout clause and accepted an offer from another team.”

This last sentence probably referred to Marc Guiu, who had paid his release clause to join the Premier League side Chelsea last summer.

Even if Barcelona end up paying somewhat more than €47 million for Olmo, this is already looking like a good investment by the club as Olmo has already been impressive in the only three appearances he has made up to now.
