Although an unfortunate injury kept him building on it, Dani Olmo had almost a perfect start to life after moving to FC Barcelona last summer. The Spaniard scored three goals in his first three games, a goal each game, and his presence on the pitch gave the Blaugranes a visible surge in its attacking plays.
The Barcelona forward recovered from his injury and was available for the last game against Sevilla, even though he did not step on the pitch for this match. However, when he was still in his recovery phase, he appeared in an interview with Jorge Valdano, a trailer of which had already been published by the interviewer.
As SPORT has reported, this interview has now been fully published, and in this lengthy interaction, Olmo spoke about various aspects of his career.
Giving a glimpse of his ambitious personality, Olmo made it clear that he felt that he had a lot to achieve in football:
“I have the feeling that I haven’t done anything yet and that I can do much more. I’m insatiable, I want to win more and more and keep winning. In the end, we compete for titles, we’re footballers, and we like to win. I don’t even like losing at marbles. You always have to go for everything.”
The Spaniard also shared his favorite position on the pitch: “As an attacking midfielder, as a number 10, just behind the striker, that’s the ideal position where I feel best.”
The former RB Leipzig forward also talked about his quick adaptation at Barcelona:
“I fit in well because of my personality, I was confident that it was the best club and team for me. I knew many players I had already played with and had shared many games with, and I knew I was going to get along perfectly with them.”
The new Barcelona player also identified the teammates he is most comfortable playing with:
“I knew that I would connect perfectly with Pedri, he’s one of the players I understand the best today, and being able to play with him throughout the whole year on the same team makes everything much easier for me. It’s also very easy with Lamine.”
He also had some special praise for Raphinha:
“He seems tireless. Sometimes I tell him, ‘Rapha, be careful,’ but that pressure… that drive he has to win the ball back… It makes the rest of us say, ‘Hey, I can’t stop here, if the guy next to me is running like that, I need to do the same or even more.'”
Lastly, Olmo also praised Flick and identified how he brings out the best in everyone:
“He’s a very approachable coach, always there for everyone, whether you’re playing or not playing as much, he’s there for whatever you need. He gives us the confidence we need.”
“Not just the veterans or those who’ve been at the top for a long time, but also the younger players, like Casadó, who’s in his first year with the first team and is showing an extremely high level.”
Olmo will be looking to get his first minutes after his recovery in the upcoming crunch game against Bayern Munich. He is not expected to start this game, but hopefully, he will be able to get back to his best for the match against Real Madrid.
