In the last few years, the superagent Jorge Mendes has been a very influential figure at FC Barcelona. The Portuguese agent has been involved in several market operations for the Blaugranes and also holds some of the biggest names in this Barcelona squad in his list of clients.
He also has a very good relationship with the club president, Joan Laporta, and this relationship has benefitted Barcelona in several market operations.
According to a report from SPORT, the agent was once again in Barcelona recently, and one of his activities during this visit included a meeting with the youngster Pedro Fernandez, who has been making rapid progress at the Blaugrana club, and has recently registered with Mendes’ agency, GestiFute. This meeting was followed by a dinner with Joan Laporta, and Deco also joined them on the table.
With this latest addition to his clientele, Mendes has further increased his influence at the Catalan club. He already has several Barcelona youngsters on his list, including Lamine Yamal, and thus this influence is not going to wane any time soon either.
He is also the go-to man for the Blaugranes when they are looking towards the market to reinforce the team. Recently, Barcelona have been linked with the Portuguese goalkeeper, Diogo Costa, who is also one of Mendes’ clients.
However, despite their relationship with Mendes, this operation would be quite difficult for Barcelona as the goalkeeper is not expected to move for less than €50 million, especially with the long list of clubs interested in him.
In addition to this market operation, Deco and Laporta have a pending issue at hand, i.e., the renewal of Lamine Yamal, on which they are set to work this season. The youngster’s explosion in the last season has made his current contract obsolete, and the two parties are looking to update his contract keeping in view his changed status in the team.
