Barcelona midfielder has yet to receive a renewal proposal

Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets has still not received a formal offer from his club for a contract extension, as per the reports from Catalunya Radio. The 34 years old is currently waiting to be offered such a contract, as the player himself earlier stated that he would like his contractual situation to be sorted by February.

The player stated the following when talking to Cadena SER in November, “By February I would like to be clear and have decided. I’ve always said that I like the United States, especially Miami, but I haven’t reached an agreement with any club. Or with other leagues..” clearly indicating both an urgency to find a solution as well as hinting on a possible future destination.

The surprise of the matter lies in the fact that both Xavi Hernandez and President Joan Laporta have previously hinted and stated that they would like to keep the Spaniard with them going forward next season, yet have not come forward with any such proposal.

As per multiple reports, the player has already received offers from clubs outside of Europe that he is currently stalling in wait for an offer from Barcelona should it arrive. Saudi Club Al-Nassr, who have recently acquired the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, and MLS side Inter Miami, partly owned by David Beckham, are a few of the clubs reported to be interested in the veteran should he depart from his Catalan home.

Busquets continues to be a great part of Xavi’s system, having played a massive 26 games this season for the Catalans. Moreover, on multiple occasions thus far, the Spaniard has seemingly rolled back the years and given strong performances on a rather consistent basis, one such having been the recent game against Real Betis in La Liga.
