Owing to the weak financial conditions of the club, any source of income will be welcome for FC Barcelona’s coffers. One such source of income has opened up for the club, as Sporting de Portugal is liable to pay Barcelona €7 million for Francisco Trincão’s permanent move to the Portuguese club.
Barcelona bought Trincao in the summer of 2020 for a fee of €31 million from Sporting de Braga, with the hopes that the young player would turn out to be an effective player at the club.
However, things did not go exactly as planned with the Portuguese, who struggled to find form and a starting spot in his turbulent years at the club and was loaned to Wolverhampton in the 2021-2022 season. The player was still unable to find form in the Premier League, as Wolves declined to practice their purchase option on the player.
Trincao then moved to Sporting de Portugal on loan for a fee of €3 million, and his contract made it obligatory for the Portuguese club to buy 50% of the player’s rights at the end of this season. The only exception that Sporting have to this compulsory purchase of the player is their relegation from the top Portuguese league, which is highly improbable as the team stands 4th in the league table for now.
In exchange for this, Sporting would pay Barcelona €7 million, while a report from Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona will retain the rest of the 50% rights. This will allow them to earn some more money in case the player is transferred again in the future.
Furthermore, Sporting also announced that FC Barcelona have a buyback option on the player, for a fee falling within the range of €20-25 million, which currently seems unlikely to be triggered, but will still be valuable for Barcelona if the player is able to gain more value in the future.
