With the recovery of several midfielders, including Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, and Dani Olmo, Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick now has a surplus of players for the middle of the pitch, as there are only three spots for these four players plus Pedri, Marc Casado, and Pablo Torre.

Still, the Catalans are being linked with other midfielders in the market, and one of the players they have been linked with recently is the AC Milan midfielder, Tijjani Reijnders. The 26-year-old midfielder is having a great season with the Italian team, leading to his links with other big European clubs, including Barcelona.

However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, people close to him do not exactly point towards the Blaugrana club as a potential destination for him in the future. This is particularly true for his father, Martin Reijnders, who shared a message on his social media after his son’s incredible performance against Club Brugge:

“What a week for Tijjani! Unjustified red card against Udinese! Yesterday, Man of the Match with two goals against Club Brugge, and to top it off, we’re in negotiations with Milan for a new contract! That’s how fast things can go in football!”

Reijnders currently has a contract with Milan till 2028, but reports from Italy indicate that the Rossoneri are looking to further extend his stay at their club by two years, and this new contract will go till 2030. This renewal will also give the midfielder a pay raise, and this renewal was what Martin referred to in this message.

Reijnders has been a particularly important player for AC Milan and was also integral in the 1-0 win against Monza as he scored the only goal in this game. Thus, it would be very difficult for Barcelona to make a committed effort to sign him, especially as they have other priorities to strengthen their team.
