With less than a couple of days to go in the transfer market, if Barcelona want to make any new additions to the squad, it has to be now. There are a lot of gaps to fill in the roster but the club doesn’t have the space to make new signings.

Center-back and defensive midfield are two positions that Barcelona find themselves scrambling for options due to injury issues. Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric Garcia are all facing spells on the sidelines with Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi the only two fit first-team options.

With respect to defensive midfield, the ACL injury to Marc Bernal has meant that the club needs to get creative with their solutions due to the lack of a positional pivot.

One player that the club has been linked with for the center-back position is Jonathan Tah. Yesterday, we covered a story where the Bayer Leverkusen director played down Barcelona and Bayern approaches for Jonathan Tah. Now, his agent Pini Zahavi has come out in the media and refuted these claims, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. Here is what he had to say:

“There have been several offers in recent weeks, all of which have been rejected despite his desire to leave”

Zahavi went on to elaborate that he doesn’t want the 28-year-old defender to leave for free next summer. He continued: “We want to avoid a player as deserving as Jona leaving the club for free next summer”

The super agent admitted that they are trying to find an amicable solution for all parties involved in this transfer saga, clearly hinting at a transfer. Zahavi continued: “That’s why we hope that we can find a solution in the short term that all parties can be happy with in the end”

Zahavi’s comments have been in direct contrast to what Rofles said yesterday about no club approaching them for Tah. It is clear that the 28-year-old is in the market and it is up to Barcelona and Bayern to try and get this deal over the line.

Even if Barcelona and Hansi Flick wanted to sign Tah, they are going to struggle to register him within La Liga’s FFP limits. It will be a huge surprise if this transfer goes through but it is one to keep an eye on in the coming hours.
