Barcelona have resumed contact with Benfica to sign the 26-year-old La Masia graduate Alejandro Grimaldo to strengthen the Left-Back spot.

The left-back spot remains the most concerning position for the Blaugranes and the club has started exploring options to strengthen this position.
The most preferred candidate for this position was Jose Gaya but his arrival is far more complicated as he is expected to renew his contract with Valencia.
With Jose Gaya set to stay at Valencia, Barcelona have turned their attention towards the former La Masia graduate to strengthen the Left-Back spot. Alejandro Grimaldo’s name has been on the table since his recent emergence as a prominent starter for the Portuguese side.
Grimaldo joined Barcelona’s youth setup in 2008 and made 92 appearances for Barcelona B before moving to Benfica in 2016. As per Mundo Deporttivo, Barcelona already procured 15% of the future sale by the time Grimaldo signed for the Portuguese side.
S.L. Benfica paid €1.5 million to Barcelona back in 2016 to sign the Spaniard and now they do not want to lose him for free in the summer of 2023 as his contract is set to expire in 2023.
€10 million is the expected price tag for the 26-year-old Left Back and Barcelona have already resumed contact with Benfica. The Catalan giants approached the Portuguese club in the winter transfer window of 2022 regarding Grimaldo but failed to reach an agreement as the demands were too high at that time.
Grimaldo has developed in Barcelona’s youth system, which means that he has all the required traits to succeed in the Blaugrana system and can easily adapt to their playing style.
The Spainard also wants to return to Catalonia and all three parties are expected to meet soon to discuss the terms of the transfer.
