Reports concerning FC Barcelona tend to spiral everywhere whenever a new signing is completed by the prestigious Catalan club, and understandably so. One of the biggest names in football, La Blaugrana are a dream club to join for many top talents across Europe.
However, within this news also sometimes comes forth misinformation. As a result, people are often led astray in their evaluation of a certain transfer or operation in general. The most recent of which came up regarding the transfer of Oriol Romeu to FC Barcelona.
The Catalan club was in the market for a defensive midfielder following the departure of ex-captain Sergio Busquets, who makes his own way to MLS side Inter Miami where he reunites with fellow Barcelona legend and old teammate Lionel Messi.
However, there seems to be a misconception regarding the recent transfer of the 31-year-old Oriol Romeu from Girona to Barcelona, with many suggesting that La Blaugrana paid half of his €8 million release clause and compensated for the rest by loaning off their own youngster, Pablo Torre, for a season-long loan to the other Catalan club.
This has, however, been officially countered by Barcelona’s Director of Football, Mateu Alemany, as reported by SPORT, who has publicly stated that Barcelona paid in the full amount of his release clause, which is speculated to be around €8 million.
However, Alemany did further elaborate that the release clause was not well defined previously and both clubs have negotiated it to an extent where La Blaugrana then paid that amount in full.
This would mean that the club has completed the loan move of Pablo Torre to Girona, which was an entirely different and separate operation, not linked to the Oriol Romeu operation in its entirety. It now remains to be seen how both Romeu and Torre fit in their respective new environments.
Having already been a Barcelona academy product, new signing Oriol Romeu comes in to reinforce the defensive midfield position, bringing alongside him vast experience that encompasses the German Bundesliga, the English Premier League as well as past experience at the top level with various La Liga outfits.
