FC Barcelona got another victory in La Liga at the start of their 2024-25 campaign as they came out as the 2-1 winners over Rayo Vallecano last night. This win, and the general form of the team, is a cause of much happiness for the Catalan club’s fans, but another event marred this happiness significantly.

The young and emerging midfielder, Marc Bernal, had to leave the pitch with an injury, and later the club confirmed that he had torn his ACL, which means he will remain on the sidelines for several months now. Such a harrowing injury at this stage of his career is one of the worst fates that Bernal could have suffered as a footballer.

The midfielder has been receiving messages of support from people around the world, and other people have also been commenting on this injury from various angles. As SPORT has noted, one such individual who commented on it was the Real Madrid head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, who rued this injury while speaking to the press ahead of his side’s match against Las Palmas.

Ancelotti himself has important players like Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga out with injuries and explained why so many footballers are getting injured at the start of the season:

“Injuries at this point in the season are the most complicated thing. It’s what happens when the schedule is too tight and there’s no time to prepare. You have to choose between work or vacations. And when those end, you face 10-11 months of work. It’s a lot.”

“In August, the intensity is at its peak, and it catches you without adequate preparation. It’s a problem for everyone… and it brings a lot of sadness. I want to compete against the best players.”

Another topic related to Barcelona that Ancelotti was asked was about player registrations. However, the Italian tactician did not comment a lot on that matter and only said: “That’s a question for La Liga; we respect all clubs.”

Thus, the Italian was rather respectful towards Barcelona. However, this does not change the fact that both these teams will be competing against each other for the biggest titles, and matches between them are once again guaranteed to be very interesting affairs.
