There are always rumors surrounding FC Barcelona no matter what the occasion or current situation is. Even as the club continues to improve its financial situation, there is always an uncertainty surrounding the future of various players. At times, it simply becomes rather hard to trust any news regarding Barcelona that comes out.

Recently, considering both the form of the team and the players that Hansi Flick has been most dependant on, certain players have been considered to be unnecessary. From forwards that are barely playing to some midfielders that are struggling, Barça may have some room for certain exits.

However, in recent weeks, there has been a lot of speculation concerning Andreas Christensen in particular. The 28-year-old Danish defender, who is currently sidelined due to injury and is hoping to recover as soon as possible, has been constantly linked with a move away from the club due to lack of playing time and with Flick having other options as well.

Yet, to completely contradict that news, the player has now spoken out himself as well. As highlighted by Fabrizio Romano, when Christensen was asked about whether or not he would be staying at Barcelona, he had a direct response:

“Staying at Barça? Yes, I will stay.”

From the player’s perspective, this news may not look to be too surprising. Christensen has always been attracted to the thought of playing for Barcelona and this move was one of his dreams from when he was a child. However, it was due to the club’s situation that a lot of sources seem to think that his future may lie elsewhere.

Ultimately, only time will tell what ends up happening because nothing is guaranteed in the world of football. Moreover, with a limited salary space and a need to always keep on improving the squad quality across various positions, Barcelona may still need to evaluate which players are worth retaining and those who are not.
