It’s not just the first team where Barcelona are trying to sort out departures this week with the club even looking to move on players in the academy as well. We covered a story revealing the club had reached an agreement with Rennes for the transfer of Mikayil Faye.
It now looks like another quarry defender could follow Faye’s footsteps and leave the club this summer. As per SPORT, Barca Athletic center-back Mamadou Mbacke could be allowed to leave this transfer window.
Mbacke spent last season on loan with Rafa Marquez’s team and formed a formidable partnership with Faye. Barcelona made his signing permanent last month by offering Los Angeles FC €2m and a percentage of a sell-on clause.
Just a month after signing for Barcelona, he might already be on his way out amid suitors in the Italian league. Mbacke signed a contract with the club until 2026 on the back of some impressive performances for the reserve team last season.
The initial idea behind signing Mbacke was that he would be given an opportunity to impress Hansi Flick and claim a spot in the first team after he recovers from his ankle injury. The player has been out for quite some while now.
However, the report adds that the interest of two Italian clubs is now making Barcelona change their mind. Despite having just signed him, they don’t mind letting him go if a suitable offer is made during this transfer window.
Barcelona’s financial situation means most players are nontransferable but selling someone who was signed just one month ago doesn’t feel right. It’s not the first time the club is doing though as they did the same with Emerson Royal a few years ago.
The center-back roster in the Barcelona first-team is well sorted with around five first-team options and losing out on the 21-year-old is not going to affect the club. It remains to be seen if we see any movement on this front in the coming days.
