Ansu Fati returned to FC Barcelona after the last season, and it was a good time for him to do so as the change in the coaching department allowed him to come back with a clean slate.
Flick had only taken up the job at the Catalan club and had yet to see the performances of the players at his disposal before making up his mind about the team he would field for this season.
Fati impressed the German coach in his first few training sessions, but an untimely injury kept him from participating in the pre-season tour of the USA, and he also remained unavailable for the first few games of the season.
He got some minutes in the UCL clash against Monaco, but then missed three league games, and returned on the pitch only in the match against Young Boys. He is currently the player lowest in Flick’s pecking order for the forward line, and reportedly Barcelona are already considering an exit for him in January to avoid a season without many minutes on the pitch.
In this regard, SPORT reports that the La Masia graduate already has an option on the table to leave Barcelona in January, as Sevilla are interested in his signature. The Andalusians are looking to sign him for a six-month loan.
There were already doubts about Fati’s continuity at Barcelona in the summer, but the Blaugranes’ inability to sign a replacement for him kept him from leaving.
In January too, Barcelona will be reluctant to part ways with players if they cannot return to the 1:1 status, but Ansu’s case is special as they do not want him to miss another crucial year for his development.
The coach of the Andalusian side, Garcia Pimienta, already knows Fati from his time as a youth-level coach at Barcelona and had already offered the forward to make him an integral piece of his team and help him recover his best level.
