Robert Lewandowski, who has been an integral part of the La Blaugrana squad ever since his arrival from Bayern Munich last summer, is suspended for the upcoming three matches.
The prolific Polish striker has scored 13 goals in 14 La Liga appearances till now and thus has played arguably the most important part in keeping the Catalans atop the league table. In addition to these goals, the striker has also been linking up well with his teammates and has given 4 assists in the first half of the league season.
These numbers themselves show difficult a task it is to replace the Pole even for a few matches. Still, Xavi will have to choose a replacement who will take over the goal-scoring burden from the pole for these three important matches against Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, and Getafe.
Memphis Depay, Ferran Torres, and Ansu Fati are the three main contenders for this role, and Mundo Deportivo ran an online survey to take the opinion of their viewers regarding their choice of Lewandowski’s replacement.
From among 6000 voters who participated in the survey, a majority, around 50%, voted for Ansu Fati. While the youngster has seen a significant part of the last season from the sidelines, due to a number of injuries, the red-hot form that he showed during his limited time on the pitch has made him a favorite with the fans.
Memphis Depay stood second with 30% of the votes, while Ferran Torres and Victor Barbera got only 9% and 5% of the votes respectively.
