Ansu Fati was one of the players who left FC Barcelona in the last summer transfer window. Having been associated with a move away from the club throughout the summer, the young Spaniard finally left for a loan to Brighton and Hove Albion.
Ansu Fati has been facing difficulties in the last few seasons at Barcelona. His physical issues drastically impacted the form that he showed early in his career, and now the competition for the forward spots in the team made it difficult for him to break into Xavi’s starting lineups or even to make an appearance as a substitute.
Ansu Fati to play for Brighton
In such circumstance, the club believed that the best way forward for Fati was to go to another club. After having rejected a number of other offers, Fati finally agreed upon moving to Brighton and Hove Albion, despite the Premier League club not being the most illustrious of the sides that were vying for his signature.
Why Fati chose Brighton has now been cleared to some extent as the player himself has spoken on this matter. In his recent interaction with Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.’s official media channel, he explained his choice and mentioned his aspirations for the season.
Regarding his choice of Brighton for a move, the forward commented:
“Firstly, I spoke to the coach Roberto and he said he has full confidence in me and told me what he thought about me. For me, that was a key factor in me coming here. He was the main person who convinced me to come here with what he said, how he sees me as a player, and what I can improve. I think that was the key.”
Fati further commented on what he knew about Brighton before moving to the club:
“I knew it was a club that has grown during the last few seasons and that it has made very good progress, even qualifying for Europe this season.”
The youngster also expressed his views on the Premier League, where he will be playing this season:
“I liked the Premier League a lot, and [Brighton] were one of the clubs I followed the most.”
Lastly, Fati also set out the objectives that he will be working towards with his new team this season:
“[I want to] have a great season, fight for the team, try to qualify for Europe again like they did last year, and if we can qualify for the Champions League that would be even better.”
There is no doubt that Fati has chosen one of the most exciting projects currently in Europe, one which will provide him a good opportunity to grow further as a player. Hopefully, he can regain his former form with his new coach, De Zerbi, and come back to Barcelona in a better physical and mental shape.
