The injury to Pablo Gavi changed a lot of things for FC Barcelona. The Spaniard had been an important part of Xavi’s plans for the season, and as he will be unavailable for the rest of the season because of his ACL tear, the Catalans will have to change their plans for the current campaign.
One of the ways that Barcelona can deal with this loss is by incorporating a new player in the upcoming window window. However, the Catalans do not have a lot of margin to get new players, and the arrival of Vitor Roque looks likely to be the club’s only move in the winter transfer window.
However, according to SPORT, the Blaugranes are also considering bringing the Argentine Giovani Lo Celso to their squad in the winter. The midfielder currently has a contract till June 2025 with Tottenham Hotspurs, so Barcelona will look to get him on loan in the winter window.
The Argentine has been linked with Barcelona for some time now. However, the possibility of getting him to Catalonia is diminishing now, as he is becoming an increasingly important player in London.
Lo Celso has started three of the last four games under Ange Postecoglou, scoring against Manchester City and Aston Villa, and played another seventeen minutes against Newcastle United last Saturday.
The midfielder got only a few minutes at the start of the season, but this dearth of minutes can be attributed mainly to the thigh injury he suffered in September.
Even though the midfielder has a long contract with Tottenham, he was getting only marginal minutes and importance in the team previously, which raised the possibility of a winter transfer to Barcelona.
However, Tottenham may not be quite as ready to part with him now, as he is performing well for them. Still, English media is abuzz with reports of Lo Celso being linked with Barcelona.
