It is hardly a surprise to see new and upcoming pearls succeed at FC Barcelona in recent seasons. Given the fragile state of their economy and financial fair play, Barça have been forced to depend on their youngsters. However, not every single young talent at Barcelona has enjoyed the same level of opportunities this season.
While the likes of Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez, and a few others have risen to stardom, there are also players in the subsidiary who are patiently waiting for their own opportunities.
This includes 19-year-old Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye, who has been exploding in terms of form this season with Barcelona Atletic.
In Faye’s case, however, some doubt is beginning to creep in. The Senegalese youngster, despite impressing quite a bit in Rafa Marquez’s Barcelona B, is yet to feature for the first team and he has not been given the opportunity to do so the entire season.
As a result, the player is now unsure of his continuity unless he is given some first-team guarantees. On top of that, as per Mundo Deportivo, important offers for the talented defender have started to arrive.
The latest of Europe’s elite clubs to join the party that is interested in Faye’s services is Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. They now join a list of clubs that includes, but is not limited to, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Inter Milan.
Moreover, with these teams being willing to offer better economic deals and more realistic sporting prospects at the highest level, they could gradually become more and more enticing for the young African defender.
Faye himself, on the other hand, remains somewhat confused with Barcelona and why they have not yet given him opportunities at the highest level.
The player has already even featured for the Senegal Men’s Senior National Team and has even scored for them. He believes that if even his national team has seen his quality and looks to trust him because of it, the way Barcelona is treating his talent simply seems unfair in comparison.
For Barcelona, this potential operation could be double-edged. On one hand, a possible sale could provide a much-needed financial boost to a club riddled with economic problems.
However, on the other hand, the Catalan giants must be careful about the possibility of another rival team fully utilizing Mikayil Faye’s potential and becoming even stronger as a result.
