Squad planning for the next season is underway at FC Barcelona, as the club tries to bring in the needed reinforcements to compete domestically and in Europe.
However, in order to bring in new players, the Catalan club needs to sell some of its current underperforming players, and Ferran Torres is one such player that can be sold by the club.
Torres joined FC Barcelona with big hopes back in January 2021, signing from Manchester City for a fee of around €50 million. With such a sensible price tag – especially knowing the club’s financial woes – Torres was deemed to be the leader of the attack for the future, but his evolution has been quite inconsistent ever since.
From his first day at the Catalan club, it was evident that he possesses the quality needed to compete at a club of such a high level, and his skill set fits the criteria to prevail in Xavi’s system. However, his spectacular misses and inconsistency, especially in front of the goal, raised doubts about his adequacy on a long term.
That way, Torres isn’t considered untouchable and if a good offer arrives, Barcelona would not stop him from leaving the club. Similarly to Ansu Fati or Raphinha, he is one of the players that have a real possibility to leave Camp Nou this summer, raising funds to make a possible return of Lionel Messi feasible.
The latest news indicates that Aston Villa are interested in the Spanish forward, as reported by English outlet talkSPORT. The fact that Mateu Alemany, who recently announced his will to step aside at the end of the season from the directorial role of Barcelona, is very likely to continue his career at the Birmingham-based club also boosts the probability of the transfer.
Furthermore, the same report goes on to state that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a long-standing admirer of the 23-year-old, and thus, Gunners are alert to the Spaniard’s situation among other Premier League clubs, which can make the idea of a possible return to England a reality for Ferran Torres.
