Following recently emerging reports that FC Barcelona had assessed the various options for French defender Clement Lenglet to leave for during the summer transfer window, it appears that a consensus has been reached among the reports regarding where exactly he could end up going to.
Previously, Gerard Romero stated that the player is on his way to England and will be playing his football in the Premier League for the 2023/2024 season. However, the Catalan journalist did not claim the name of the club that seems to be interested in the player’s acquisition, as he only confirmed that it was not going to be Tottenham Hotspur who were previously heavily linked to the player.
Now, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has made his own assessment of the operation and provided exclusive details regarding Lenglet’s situation. According to the reliable journalist, it is none other than Aston Villa that continue to showcase interest in the French defender and are currently weighing up the option to sign him.
Romano does state that the player still has various options on the table awaiting his response as well as that of FC Barcelona. However, Barcelona are now aware of the interest from Aston Villa and could be willing to further assess it if developments end up taking place.
It is yet unclear whether Aston Villa are interested in the player on a loan deal or as a permanent buy, but it is clear that Gerard Romero believes the 28-year-old will play his football in England next season.
At the moment, other options on the table for Lenglet are reported to be Tottenham Hotspur as previously mentioned, Sevilla, and new potential suitors Real Betis, who are reportedly considering Lenglet as a suitable replacement for their own departing defender Luis Felipe, who looks set to depart for Saudi Arabia as many have already done so this summer.
