One of the key areas FC Barcelona aim to strengthen in the upcoming summer transfer window is the center-forward position. Although Robert Lewandowski began the season in excellent form, his performances have dipped recently, and the Catalan club is also mindful of concerns surrounding his age.
For this purpose, the Blaugranes have been linked with several players, like Erling Haaland and Viktor Gyokeres, but are yet to make a final decision on which of these players they would like to sign as Lewandowski’s long-term replacement.
Under these circumstances, Spanish publication, Diario SPORT reports that another striker on Barcelona’s radar is Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak.
After impressing at Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad, the 25-year-old Swede joined the Magpies in 2022 for €70 million. However, for his performances and future projections, FC Barcelona have always been interested in him.
After a slow first season of adaptation, Alexander Isak found his stride last season, scoring 25 goals in 40 appearances for Newcastle. This season, he is on track to replicate those numbers, having already netted 12 league goals. This tally places him third on the Premier League’s top scorers list, behind Mohamed Salah, and Erling Haaland.
However, one major obstacle for FC Barcelona in pursuing Alexander Isak is his steep price tag, with Newcastle reportedly valuing him at around €180 million. This figure would be extremely challenging for the Blaugranes to meet, given the financial difficulties they have faced in recent years.
Isak has a contract with Newcastle United till 2028, and the Magpies have no intentions of selling him. Other Premier League sides like Arsenal and Liverpool are also following him closely, but he looks to be a highly unlikely candidate for Lewandowski’s replacement because of Barcelona’s poor finances.
