The planning to incorporate new recruits never stops at FC Barcelona. Despite still being more than an entire month away from the winter transfer window, speculation about potential targets for Barça is already in full swing through various recent reports.

In terms of priorities in January, the name of Brazilian starlet Vitor Roque constantly seems to come up. Moreover, even the incorporation of a young pivot is also seen as a fundamental topic of discussion. However, it seems that another possible target may soon become unattainable.

The player in question is Argentinian midfielder Guido Rodriguez. Currently playing for Andalusian side Real Betis, the player has a contract in place until the summer of 2024. However, as SPORT highlights, it is unlikely that an agreement for an extension will be reached.

Moreover, SPORT also claims that Atletico Madrid are now quite keen and attentive towards the situation of the 29-year-old. He is seen as a player who would have an immediate impact and could become a key asset to Diego Simeone.

Similarly, Xavi Hernandez himself also took a liking towards the pivot this summer and even before that. However, due to obvious financial problems, Barcelona ultimately had to abandon their quest to acquire him, just as they had to abandon other similar pursuits.

Depending on how important Barcelona now consider his talents to be, their next move will be crucial. Either they can let Atletico Madrid take advantage of a favorable business opportunity or jump in themselves, a lot depends on how they assess Rodriguez’s importance.

For now, it is understood that the player will likely be available at a low cost in January. Since Betis are not assured by the fact that the player’s contract could potentially not even end up being extended, they may look to offload him as soon as possible to at least generate some revenue from his sale.
