Atletico Madrid outcast remains a disputed topic within the offices of FC Barcelona – report

FC Barcelona are entering the final days of the summer transfer window with only a few priority targets in the minds of the club’s higher-ups as they look to finalize specific operations left unresolved such as the arrival of certain players and the registration of others that are also currently left in the balance.

The Catalan giants currently continue to focus on the arrival of Portuguese star and 29-year-old Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo, whose transfer is almost on the verge of completion but is only being stalled due to the complications of Financial Fairplay that will soon be sorted out as well according to reports.

However, while Barcelona prepare to incorporate both Cancelo and potentially even pursue a new midfielder in light of Pedri’s recent injury, there exists the door to 23-year-old Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix that also requires an answer from FC Barcelona.

The record signing for Atletico Madrid in their history, the Portuguese star has not lived up to the expectations originally kept of him when he arrived from Benfica. As such, Atletico Madrid has also previously loaned him off to Premier League side Chelsea where he spent half a season on loan in 2023.

His flair and creativity are still his primary traits that continue to attract European attention, as he managed to showcase them in both Spain and England. His eye for goal and technical ability are also traits that set him apart from others at his age but his consistency has often been called into question before.

According to Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo, while Barcelona do have Joao Felix’s folder open as a possibility in the final days of the summer window, it is mainly President Joan Laporta who sees him as an exciting prospect to sign while new Sporting Director Deco and head coach Xavi Hernandez do not agree with his judgment regarding the player.

While this news directly applies to the case between Barcelona and Joao Felix, it also adds some clarity to the relationship between Xavi and Deco, which was at one point reported to have been rather rocky but these agreements on various matters seem to be a clear indication that their relationship at Barca is much more goal-oriented rather than driven by personal intentions.
