Joao Felix joined Atletico de Madrid from SL Benfica in 2019 with great expectations after having a really good season in Portugal. However, things did not pan out the way they were expected to, and Felix found it difficult to adjust to life at Atletico Madrid, especially with the tactics adopted by Diego Simeone.

Felix struggled at Atletico

Thus, after trying for a number of seasons, Felix left for Chelsea on loan for the second half of last season. He did not stay long with Atletico after returning to Madrid in the summer, as Barcelona were able to sign him on the deadline day of the transfer window.

At this time, his relationship with the Atletico Madrid administration, dressing room, and the fans was completely broken, and he was able to play his first competitive minutes this season only after moving to Barcelona.

Atletico President on Felix

However, the forward has arrived at Barcelona only on a loan, and the Atletico Madrid hierarchy is clear in this regard. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, this emotion was clearly expressed by the Atletico Madrid President, Enrique Cerezo, on Wednesday:

“He should show everything he’s got, which is a lot. He can be one of the greats in Europe in two years, and I’m convinced he will do it at Barcelona, but I have to say that he is an Atlético de Madrid player.”

There is truth in Cerezo’s words about the ownership of Felix by Atletico, but if the player is able to regain his form in Xavi’s setup, it would be beneficial for all the parties involved to make the move permanent.
