FC Barcelona have been targeting Inigo Martinez for quite some time at this point. The Athletic Bilbao defender has in recent days been reported to being very close to finalizing the agreements he has in place with the Catalan club.
However, SPORT has just recently revealed that Diego Simeone’s Atletico de Madrid are also quite interested in the Spanish central defender and are keen as well on acquiring his services for the Colchoneros.
Recent reports had all been rather positive about the Spaniard’s arrival to the Catalan city, with revelations emerging that even his wife was currently in the city of Barcelona looking for housing, further adding fuel to the transfer rumors.
Expected to be a free transfer come the summer, it is not unexpected that clubs such as Atletico Madrid would also be interested in such an acquisition. Having had tons of experience already in La Liga Santander coupled with his individual quality, Inigo Martinez would be a great deal for any club that is able to land him on a free transfer.
As SPORT reports, however, the central defender is still yet to make his final decision and all parties involved must be eagerly waiting for his final say on the matter.
Before Barcelona themselves can proceed with such an operation, they will need to clear up space in their own financial constraints and possibly part ways with certain players should the need arise.
