Barca 0-1 Cadiz: A 4th consecutive dismal performance, and the worst possible time to go on a ‘bad’ streak.
Blaugranas continue to have their struggles against low, and narrow blocks. Cadiz sat back in a typical 4-5-1 shape and cleared away the Catalans’ offensive plays comfortably.
Barcelona labored embarrassingly in the hope of prising open Cadiz’s low block, but only found ineffective crosses being the only source of penetration. Pedri’s absence was notable in the midfield as Barcelona failed to add any dynamism between the lines.
Xavi said he was angry with the nature of the Cadiz loss and his players are “pissed off” following a second defeat at Camp Nou in the space of four days after being knocked out of the Europa League by Frankfurt on Thursday.
Xavi on his team’s performance:
“Personally, I am angry because we did not play well, we did not know how to attack, we were not at our level and we have to improve a lot if we want to reach the UCL. We made mistakes that shouldn’t be made. We have to be a more competitive team.”
Xavi on the absence of key players:
“We have to be self-critical, analyze what we’re doing wrong and change the negative dynamic as soon as possible. Of course, the absence of players like Pedri and Araújo is noticeable, but that’s no excuse.”
Xavi on Barca’s next game against Real Sociedad:
“We have to think about the next game now and get the absent players back. We have a great passion to qualify for the Champions League next season.”
Xavi on not playing Dani Alves:
“Dani Alves was having problems before the game.”
Xavi on the Champions League qualification for the next season:
“We lost a final now and there are still 7 games left and we have to qualify for the champions next season.”
Xavi on Grada de Animacion for not attending the match:
“It’s a shame that the Grada de Animacion didn’t come because we needed them, but once again the public has risen to the occasion, they always do, and it’s important.”
Xavi on the recent poor performances:
“The last two games and three were not good, we have to play with more faith and desire, offensively and defensively, today was difficult and we have to criticize ourselves. We have a Sociedad game and we have to improve.”
Xavi on the La Liga title race:
“Today we say goodbye to the league title.”
