Barca can terminate Pique’s contract in 2023 – Report

Barca can terminate Piqué's contract in 2023

It’s no surprise anymore that with the arrival of new center-backs at Camp Nou, Gerard Pique has been sidelined for most of the time this season causing a multifold decrease in his game time.

New reports surfacing from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo speak regarding the presence of a clause in the Blaugrana Legend’s contract. The clause specifically says that in case Gerard Pique plays less than 35% of the total matches this season representing the Catalan club, it gives Barcelona Board the ability to terminate his contract 1 year earlier than what originally was the endpoint.

This means that we could see a possible early departure of Gerard Pique in the year 2023 instead of 2024. Also, completing the threshold of 35% matches played out of the total is quite unlikely at the current rate, adds the report.

Amidst all these speculations, another report from the very same outlet adds that in case Gerard Pique ends up leaving due to the aforementioned reason, the club would sign Inigo Martinez, the veteran defender left-footed center-back from Athletic Club who turns into a free agent next season.
