Barca News Round-up: 03 January 2023

Barca News Network brings you today’s latest Barca News round-up including Espanyol’s complaint against Lewandowski, Araujo’s return, Wilfried Zaha, Depay’s future, and an update on Barcelona’s quest to sign Angelo Gabriel.

Espanyol Complaint Against Lewandowski Playing in the Derby:

Robert Lewandowski had received a red card and three-match ban in the Liga Clash against Osasuna and was expected to miss the match against Espanyol. However, a Sports Court in Madrid overturned the ban and allowed the Polish striker to play in the last league match only hours before the match was to take place.

Now Espanyol has filed a written appeal with the Royal Spanish Football Federation against Lewandowski playing in the derby, who they believe was ineligible to play.

Araujo Expected to Return to the Starting XI:

Ronald Araujo has now been out of the squad for almost three months because of the thigh injury he suffered in September, and his ensuing surgery. The player has recovered and is ready to play, and thus Xavi will try to bring him back to full match fitness by starting him in the Copa clash against Intercity.

Barcelona eyeing Wilfried Zaha:

While the wings are currently stacked with a number of players available to play both on the left and right, the club is not particularly impressed with players like Memphis Depay and Raphinha, and are putting them in the market. To replace them, the club has identified Crystal Palace player Wilfried Zaha, whose contract expires this summer.

Barcelona Looking for teams interested in Memphis Depay:

Despite having some shining moments, Memphis Depay’s career at Barcelona never really took off, and he is yet to make any significant contribution to the club. As a result, the Catalan club is ready to cut their losses with the Dutchman, and have offered him to a number of potentially interested clubs, including Newcastle United, AS Roma, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

Another Brazilian Starlet Slipping From Barcelona’s Hands

FC Barcelona missed out on one of the brightest Brazilian youngsters in Endrick Felipe when Real Madrid officially announced their contract with him. Following this failure, Barcelona had set their sights on the young Santos forward Angelo Gabriel, but once again they are being left behind by AC Milan, who are expected to send in an offer of €20m for the youngster.
