Fc Barcelona have shifted their focus from Marcos Alonso to Javi Galan due to La Liga’s FFP rules as reported by Diario AS.
The Catalans were set to sign Marcos Alonso from Chelsea and the negotiations were in the advanced stages. The player has also had a verbal agreement on personal terms with Fc Barcelona and was waiting for the green light of the club to complete his move.
But now the move seems very unlikely to happen as Catalans are finding it difficult to comply with La Liga’s FFP rules and are forced to go for a viable alternative. Javi Galan has been linked with the Catalans since the start of this summer window and now emerged as a suitable alternative to reinforce the Left-Back spot.
Javi Galan would earn around €2 million, half of what Marcos Alonso had agreed to earn and this would help the club in order to comply with La Liga’s FFP rules and the salary cap limit.
Javi Galan has a release clause of €18 million and is bound with Celta Vigo until 2026. Fc Barcelona are set to make an offer worth €9 million to Celta Vigo for Javi Galan in the coming hours, which is half of his release clause.
The club is already working on multiple exits and salary reductions to free up the space on the wage bill in order to be able to register Kounde and potential new signings.
