Despite being on course to win their first La Liga title in several years, and having already won the Spanish Supercup, the FC Barcelona squad still suffers from a number of weaknesses. The forward line is perhaps the most in need of an overhaul, and the club is preparing to reinforce this position in the squad for the upcoming season.
One of the ways identified by the club to bolster their attack next season is by resigning the experienced striker, Pierre Aubameyang. The Gabonese striker spent half a season at Barcelona, as he joined the Catalans in January 2022 as a free agent, before leaving the club to sign for Chelsea in September 2022 for €12 million.
Even in this brief time, the striker was able to leave a mark for himself at Camp Nou. He scored a number of important goals for the club in his short stint, which included a memorable brace against Real Madrid.
Having this impactful performance in his first Barcelona spell in mind, the club is looking to bring him to Camp Nou once again, in order to help the club’s forward line. SPORT reports that negotiations for this operation are already well underway, and Aubameyang has already given his nod to this transfer and is willing to reduce his wages significantly.
The Catalan club, meanwhile, is looking for a way to make Aubameyang leave Chelsea for free. Talks between the two parties have been underway since January, but their financial situation and league rules regarding his registration made it impossible to undertake such a transfer in the winter transfer window.
This time around, the club is making a concentrated effort to ensure they can bring the Gabonese to Camp Nou. The player himself is equally keen to rejoin the Catalan side and has communicated this to FC Barcelona officials. This operation is particularly attractive for Blaugranes as a free transfer would allow them to spend on other targets as well.
