The level demanded by FC Barcelona is such that many stars struggle to keep up with. Especially after a certain age, even top stars begin to decline in terms of their contributions. This is only a natural process, and many Barcelona stars of the past could attest to it.
However, for some players, giving up early does not seem like an option. Barcelona ace Robert Lewandowski is undoubtedly a legendary player who believes he still has more to offer. On the contrary, his numbers have declined this season compared to his last.
American interest
As a result, the player is no longer seen as an untouchable at the club. Moreover, according to SPORT, this has been a particularly pleasing subject for clubs in America. The latest update states that clubs from the MLS would be interested in signing the Polish striker.
Previously, the player had even received offers from Saudi Arabia. SPORT suggests that one offer may have potentially reached a financial package of up to €150 million per year. Staggering numbers by themselves, it is not unusual for the Arabian country to offer such extravagant figures.
Joining Barcelona and a change of heart
However, in steps the American MLS. Lewandowski previously rejected all Middle Eastern proposals in favor of coming to Barcelona. Yet, in the case of the MLS, the Polish ace has even confirmed his chances of joining the American League in the past:
“Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the idea of joining the MLS was firmly in my head.”
However, while it may have been left as an open door back then, Lewandowski did clarify something. Following his arrival at Barcelona, the former Bayern Munich star felt a change of heart:
“I changed my mind and after the Barcelona episode it is difficult to imagine that I could end up in that league.”
The player remains determined for now to stay in Barcelona and complete his contract. Thus far, he has managed to score 6 goals and provide 4 assists across all competitions in 12 appearances.
Not bad numbers at all, they just fall rather short for a player of his caliber given the extraordinary season he had in the previous campaign. He may now have a chance to add to his tally in the upcoming Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk.
