The FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski was able to return to the scoresheet in last night’s match against Deportivo Alaves, and this was his first goal since the one he scored against Girona back in December 2023.
Thus, the Pole broke a goal drought that lasted for almost two months, which saw him being unable to score in six straight La Liga matches.
Having gotten on the scoresheet with the first goal of the match, the striker also spoke to the media after the 1-3 victory against Alaves and gave some insights about his form and experiences during the drought.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Lewandowski acknowledged that he was very happy with the goal scored last night, and expressed this happiness to the media:
“I am very happy with the goal; it was a very good pass from Gündogan. I saw the space and then finished well. For me, as a forward, it is important to score goals. I saw the space, and in the end, I was in a very good position. It has been an important goal for the team. We had control of the game.”
The Pole shared that his experience helped him keep going in the very adverse circumstances that he has been facing for the last two months:
“It’s always difficult, but it’s important to stay calm if you’re not scoring. It’s easier to be patient with more experience. I have to keep working; in the end, I saw the goalkeeper going down and didn’t have space.”
“It was very important for me to gain confidence. I hope to continue helping and securing three points in every game.”
Lastly, Lewandowski also talked about his fellow striker, Vitor Roque, and urged everyone to have patience with him:
“Vitor is a player who runs a lot forward and behind me. If I’m with my opponent, we can talk and create spaces. With his arrival, we have more opportunities to play.”
“I have to help him too. He is young and has a lot of talent, but he needs time. Everything is new for him, but I am sure that with time, we will play even better.”
As Lewandowski himself claimed, last night’s goal will be very important for him going forward. The Barcelona ace has now ended his long goal drought, and hopefully, he can now continue firing on all cylinders to end this rather underwhelming season on a high note.
