At the moment, it seems that nothing is bigger than Xavi’s planned departure from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are forced to continue this ongoing campaign with the image of Xavi leaving at the end clearly in their heads. However, while there are those concerned with Barcelona who believe this to be positive, others are not too sure.
There is also a belief that some important figures within the club are happy with Xavi’s decision. Others, while not against the idea itself, are opposed to the way in which it was conveyed. However, rather surprisingly, there is one player who has been deeply impacted by Xavi’s decision to leave Barcelona.
That player is none other than Robert Lewandowski, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo. For the Polish ace, Xavi’s decision stems from not just a collective inability of the club to support him, but also from the individual errors of the players, including himself as the side’s striker.
In fact, as per MD, he has already met with Xavi on two occasions to convince him to change his mind. The first occasion came shortly after his actual public statement, and on Sunday he asked the coach to possibly change his mind and even made an apology.
While Xavi appreciated the Barcelona striker’s intentions, he believes that his decision is final. However, Lewandowski was not too convinced and believed that he could not take no for an answer right there. Thus, the Pole also met with the Barcelona coach yesterday to discuss the matter again privately.
The 35-year-old forward once again showed Xavi how saddened he was by what was happening, and also tried to help the coach see that the ones at fault are the players being unable to deliver at the highest level.
Not too long after, the striker held a gathering of sorts at his house for his teammates. This meeting did not include the coaching staff, but Lewandowski hosted this meal for his team hoping to provide clarity and unity to the squad.
The goal for all of them now remains to deliver in the remaining La Liga games and the upcoming UEFA Champions League encounters.
