Long gone are the days when FC Barcelona could simply choose a world-class talent to pursue and most of the time be able to get away with securing their services for extraordinary amounts of funds being invested in the transfer of the said player.
Now, with economic hurdles and financial limitations constantly being a burden on the Catalan club, they must remain passive in their pursuits and be considerate of their economic situation before attempting to bid or invite anyone to Barcelona.
However, courtesy of the new Board being helmed by President Joan Laporta, the damage done by previous economic mismanagements has been subdued as much as possible and FC Barcelona remains a competitive side.
It appears that the departure of Ousmane Dembele, albeit a blow in its own right, could prove to be key in Barcelona’s advances to recruit top players in other positions, with the most recent revelation regarding this concern coming from a very reliable source.
As per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona have indeed successfully agreed personal terms with 29-year-old Portuguese international and Manchester City star fullback, Joao Cancelo, amidst links of a possible transfer to FC Barcelona.
The journalist claims the player does in fact want the move, as well as stating that Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has indeed been wanting to recruit Cancelo since January of this year, as had been speculated.
Furthermore, Romano explains that Barcelona will now proceed to enter advanced negotiations with Manchester City itself as they look to finalize the intricacies of the potential transfer taking into account the structural and financial components of the deal.
FC Barcelona intend to use a part of Dembele’s transfer fee that they will receive from PSG and allocate it towards the operation concerning Joao Cancelo.
All that is left now for fans of La Blaugrana is to wait and see how this deal progresses as negotiations between both clubs persist and reach advanced points to finalize an agreement.
