With the winter transfer window closed, FC Barcelona can now set their attentions on preparing for the next season. The club will be looking to make the necessary additions to their squad in the next summer window, while also trying to sell their unneeded players.

The midfield is one of the areas most in need of reinforcement, with the pivot position particularly in need of a competent player, as Oriol Romeu was not able to impress the Catalan club this season. One of the midfielders most closely associated with Barcelona in recent months has been Aleix Garcia, who plays for another Catalan club, Girona.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, both the technical and the sporting staff are in favor of signing the Girona midfielder, and the club has already informed Girona that they want to acquire Garcia’s services for the next season.

As things stand, Garcia is an essential player for Michel, but Girona understand that it will not be easy to retain a player of his quality for long. Michel’s club claims Garcia’s release clause to be around €20 million, but Barcelona have found that this sum is actually around €14-15 million.

Furthermore, the Blaugranes also believe they can get this price further reduced by making either Eric Garcia or Pablo Torre, who are both on loan at Girona, or any other of their players a part of the deal.

Barcelona really like the midfielder for his movement, ball control, set pieces, and ability to steal the ball. However, the factor that makes Garcia almost irresistible is his ability to play both as a pivot and as an interior, two areas that Barcelona want to strengthen going forward.

Thus, keeping in view the multiple holes that he fills in the Barcelona squad, Garcia will be a priority signing for the Catalans this summer.

The player himself has already publicly declared his dream of playing for Barcelona, both the player and the Blaugranes would be working to make his dream come true this summer.

As things stand, Barcelona have not committed to signing any other of their targets next summer, and thus Garcia can be their first summer signing.
