Still only 16 years of age, the youngster Lamine Yamal has established himself as one of the most trusted players for Xavi this season. The youngster has been making constant strides since the start of the season and is now a clear starter, even ahead of the vastly more experienced Raphinha.
The winger is fully committed to Barcelona, having grown up as a talent through the ranks at La Masia and having desired to play for the first team at the club of his dreams.
He now wants to get his name etched in the history books at the Catalan club, and at least from a contractual point of view, already has things prepared well to fulfill this wish.
As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the player has a contractual setup in place that ties him to the Catalan club till he turns 24 years old.
Yamal’s agent, Jorge Mendes, and Barcelona both knew of the youngster’s desire to remain at the club for a long time and thus arrived at an agreement that will keep the winger at Barcelona till 2030, but in different phases.
Firstly, as Yamal was still a minor, he could not legally bind himself to a club for more than three years. Thus, his current contract, which was signed last year, goes till 2026.
However, Mendes and Barcelona also came to an agreement that the player would sign another contract renewal in 2025 when he will turn 18 years old, and would thus no longer be minor, for the next five years.
When this second contract ends, the youngster will already be 24 years old and will have already been a part of the first team for eight seasons. Thus, with his future already set at Barcelona, Yamal now only needs to focus on his performances to ensure that he remains a key part of the club’s squad for years to come.
