Barcelona understand that the market is not as accessible for them as it used to be. In the past, the Catalan giants used to enter any and every transfer window as giants of both prestige and financial backing. Now, however, Barcelona can not really count much on the latter whenever they negotiate.

As such, a great dilemma that Barcelona now face for the summer is recruiting thoughtfully. The Catalan giants already know that they must recruit a new pivot to reinforce a position in which they have faced a lot of problems. However, there is also another massive issue to address.

Both Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto, two veteran fullbacks, are set to see their contracts expire in the summer. Moreover, with Barcelona not planning to renew their respective contracts, that is a big blow to the depth that the Blaugranes have on their wings.

As a result, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have sorted out their alternatives already. Knowing their economic restraints, Barça are aware that they will not be able to make big moves. With Joao Cancelo’s transfer also pending, their options become even more restricted.

Both Alex Valle and Julian Araujo, as a consequence, are expected to return to Barça. One continues to excel with Levante in the Second Division of Spain, while the Mexican fullback continues to gain supporters for his performances with Las Palmas in the First Division.

Both those players are currently on loan and are still Barcelona players at the end of the season. In the event that the Catalan giants do not pursue any new targets, they could be expected to remain with the club by the time the summer transfer window comes to an end.

However, one name that Barcelona do believe would be a great addition is Mario Hermoso. A 28-year-old defender for Atletico Madrid, his contract is expected to reach its expiry in the summer and he could bring both quality and experience simultaneously should Barça manage to snatch him away.
