In the coming few years, FC Barcelona are going to some important players from their defence and the midfielder if their contracts are not renewed.

This is the case for Inigo Martinez, who is emerging as a new leader of the Blaugrana defence after the injuries to Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo, as his contract ends in 2025. Similarly, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric Garcia also have their contracts ending in 2026.

In the midfield, Frenkie de Jong’s contract will also end in 2026. Regarding all of these players, Barcelona are clear that they will either renew their contracts or will be placed on the transfer list.

On the other hand, the Catalans will also be looking to reinforce these positions by getting some proven players while spending a minimum amount of money on them. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, there are two main targets that Barcelona have in their sights who meet this criteria.

For the defence, one of the players that the Blaugranes like the most is the Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah. The German is represented by Pini Zahavi, who has a good relationship with Barcelona President Joan Laporta.

The defender’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen is ending at the end of this season, and the player is not too keen to renew it. Tah and Zahavi also tried to complete a move for the defender in the last days of the recently closed summer transfer window but without any success.

Bayern Munich were interested in his signing, but Leverkusen did not approve such a move as they did not want to strengthen a direct rival. Barcelona also tried to sign him after Christensen’s injury, but had too limited a financial margin to put in an offer for him. Now, the Catalans are looking to sign him as a free agent next year but might have to compete with other big clubs.

For the midfield, Flick’s favourite candidate will be Joshua Kimmich, with whom he has already worked at Bayern Munich and with the German national team. The new Barcelona coach trusts him and believes he can work well both as a pivot and as a right-back.

His contract at Bayern also ends next year, and despite the Bavarian club’s efforts, he is not ready to renew. However, Barcelona might face competition for his signing from the likes of Real Madrid, but Flick’s presence at the Catalan club can give them an advantage in this operation.
