Following the serious injury suffered by Marc Andre Ter Stegen, the goalkeeping position is under scrutiny by the decision-makers at FC Barcelona.
Having secured a short-term solution to the problem with the signing of Wojciech Szczęsny, the Catalans are now also looking for a long-term solution as Ter Stegen is already 32 years of age, and it is not yet clear how he will recover from his current injury.
The Blaugranes can also go to the market if they are not fully convinced by the performances of Inaki Pena or if Ter Stegen’s recovery does not go as planned.
One of the candidates that Barcelona have reportedly in their sights is the Lille goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier. The Catalans have been keeping an eye on the French goalie since last season when he attracted attention with his good performances that helped Lille qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
He has also been in spectacular form this season, as was clear from his performance in one of the biggest matches of his career, against Real Madrid in the UCL, which his side won 1-0.
According to SPORT, Barcelona have a good relationship with Chevalier’s agent, Mikkel Beck, as he also represented the former Blaugrana player Lucas Digne, and this has allowed them to get a good idea of how much the goalkeeper would cost if they make a move for him.
The report claims that Barcelona understand that the Frenchman will not leave Lille for less than €40 million. Several reasons have contributed to his increased price.
Firstly, he has shown good performance and growth over the last few years. Secondly, because Lille sold Leny Yoro to Manchester United for €70 million only some months ago, and the French side is in no desperate need of funds.
Similarly, the Lille President has proven himself to be a tough negotiator, and the general inflationary trend in the market all combine to see the valuation of the goalkeeper go to such a high level.
