FC Barcelona had a hugely successful deadline day of the last summer transfer window as they were able to get two highly competent footballers on a free loan. Both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo arrived without any loan fee in the summer.
However, they have performed at the highest level since joining the club. Both the players have made two starts in the last week, and have significantly enhanced the level of Xavi’s team.
Long contracts for Felix and Cancelo
As a result of their amazing performances in the early stages of their Barcelona careers, the club might be interested in keeping them beyond their loan stints. The players themselves have shown their desire to remain with the Catalan club even beyond this season.
However, signing them would be a complicated matter for Barcelona, as they both still have some years left on their contracts. Felix has extended his contract before moving to Barcelona, and his new contract remains in force till 2029, with a release clause of €350 million. Cancelo’s Manchester City contract goes till 2027 and has no release clause.
Barcelona investigate the costs of the players
Now, as Mundo Deportivo reports, Barcelona has made investigations through various sources and understand how much they will have to pay in order to buy these players permanently.
Felix would cost the Catalans around €80 million, which seems to be high as Atletico paid €127 million for him four years ago, and only €54 remains in amortization of this cost.
Joao Cancelo would cost significantly less, and Barcelona can get him for around €25 million. There might be some variables added, but the fee would not significantly pass this mark. The age of the player who will be thirty years old next summer and his two loans in a row play in Barcelona’s favor as they lower the player’s value for City.
Barcelona face a huge advantage in their pursuit as both the players want to remain at the Catalan club, and are unlikely to consider moving to another club. However, they will have to maintain the level of their performances to actually move Barcelona into making efforts to get them permanently.
