Although their financial conditions significantly limit their ability to land their desired targets from the market, FC Barcelona still remain aware of the best players emerging in different parts of the world.
In the last summer transfer window, one of the players they were linked with was their former academy gem Xavi Simons, who emerged as one of the most in-demand players in Europe after his performances both with his club, RB Leipzig, and the Dutch national team in the UEFA EURO 2024.
However, the 21-year-old La Masia graduate, who spent nearly a decade developing in Barcelona’s youth academy from 2010 to 2019, chose to remain at RB Leipzig, extending his loan from Paris Saint-Germain for another year.
But now, SPORT reports that PSG are now open to parting ways with him permanently in the next summer transfer window, with the Premier League and La Liga being touted as his most likely destinations.
More precisely, Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are the clubs that have a good chance of landing him. Similarly, Manchester United are also in contention for his signing, after having tried last summer as well, while Leipzig are also trying to keep the footballer within their fold.
Last summer, getting Simons on loan was a market opportunity for Barcelona, but the club ultimately decided to sign Dani Olmo, who is proving the Blaugranes decision to be right with his amazing start to the season.
Furthermore, Barcelona also have Fermin Lopez, Pablo Torre, and even Raphinha to play in the attacking midfield position, but Simons’ presence will add more talent and versatility to the team.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also trying to get the player, as they want more quality in their midfield, but their rocky relationship with PSG following the long Mbappe saga makes this operation quite difficult for them.
However, with only two years left on his contract, the Parisians are open to selling him next summer for around €80 million, which is Simon’s market value, as the player has no intentions of renewing and they fear his value will decline with only one year left on his contract in 2026.
