Although the season of FC Barcelona can be considered to be a successful one, especially when observed in the background of the last few seasons, there have been some clear deficiencies in the squad. One such clear weakness has been the lack of output from the forward line, which is an issue the club is looking to resolve for the coming season.
The season started with high hopes for the club’s attacking line, as a world-class striker in Robert Lewandowski was brought to the club, who was also joined by the highly rated winger Raphinha. Fans and the club were also optimistic about the already present forwards, like Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, and Ousmane Dembele. However, none of these attacking players have performed up to the expected level in this campaign.
To assuage this situation, the club is looking to make significant changes in their forward line for the next season. One such move being considered by the club, according to journalist Achraf Ben Ayad, is the swap deal with Atletico which would see Ferran Torres join the Madrid side, with Yannick Carrasco coming to Barcelona.
Offloading Ferran Torres would make sense for the club, as the winger has not been able to live up to his expectations or the €55 million transfer fee that the club paid for him. After a brief promising period, the winger has struggled in his appearances for the club and has lost his standing with the fans.
However, he still retains some of his previous value, as was apparent from his performance in the last La Liga tie against Atletico Madrid.
Barring a two-year cameo in China, Yannick Carrasco has spent most of his senior career with Atletico Madrid. He operates mostly at the Left Wing, and his strengths include his ability to beat his marker with pace and good dribbling skills. However, he already is 29 years old, and he is expected to decline in these key aspects as he advances in age in the coming years.
Thus, swapping an underperforming, but potentially talented, player for another player who is expected to decline in the coming season would not be the best way forward for the club. Still, keeping in view the way Torres has struggled in his time at the club, one can hope that Carrasco can help the club provide greater attacking output if this swap deal actually materializes this summer.
